It typically takes 3-5 business days for an electronic transfer between brokerage firms to be completed and the assets to show up in your Investrade account.

The exact time frame depends on the type of transfer and your current firm. If your current firm accepts electronic requests (Automated Customer Account Transfer Service, or ACATs), the transfer will take approximately 3-5 business days to process. During this period, your original brokerage account may still show your stock positions. If you place any trades during this period, it may delay your account transfer.

You can log into your Investrade account to see when the assets have transferred. Once the assets are here, you’ll have full access to your cash and securities.

Investrade does not charge any fees for incoming transfers. If your existing brokerage firm charged you an account transfer fee, you may participate in our Transfer Rebate Offer.
You submit your transfer request to Investrade, and we then contact your current firm on your behalf. After your current firm processes the request, they send your assets to Investrade, and we deposit your assets into your selected account. It’s a simple, highly straightforward process.
For most transfers, your current firm will send the assets to Investrade all at once. However, if your transfer includes assets that must be sold first or if you have pending activity, your current firm may send those assets once they are settled. In instances like that, your assets will be transferred to Investrade in batches and you may see a balance with your current firm until the transaction is completed.

If you are partially transferring an account from another brokerage firm, you will still complete the Account Transfer Form and follow the instructions under Section 3b. A partial transfer will typically take 3-5 business days to complete if the firm accepts electronic requests.

This depends on the specific kinds of investments you hold. Most stocks will transfer over in-kind, but if you own OTC/bulletin board stocks, these securities may need to be sold and transferred over as cash. Investrade will notify you if any securities in your account are unable to be transferred from another firm.

Yes. In advance of your options transfer, you need to make sure that you have been approved for the appropriate level of option trading at Investrade. For example, if you are transferring option spreads, you need to make sure you have applied for and are approved for Level 3 options trading at Investrade before you submit your transfer.

If you are transferring positions on margin, please make sure you have a margin account at Investrade before you submit your transfer.

If these requirements are met, your transfer should have the same time frame as other investments and take 3-5 business days.

If you are transferring from a company that is not ACATs eligible, you will need to contact them directly and they will provide you with the appropriate transfer documents.

What kind of accounts are non-ACATs eligible? Typically, if your assets are with a bank, mutual fund, credit union, insurance company or limited partnership that does not participate in ACATs.

Please note that a non-ACAT transfer can take longer to complete, typically 2-4 weeks.
