U.S. stocks open mixed against a heavy Tuesday earnings slate, with the Nasdaq Composite outperforming early behind Technology (XLK) adding to the prior day gains, but still remains the biggest decliner in the S&P in October still (down -4% this month). Markets are likely to be choppy today and tomorrow morning as investors parse through a glut of earnings results and await tomorrow’s FOMC policy meeting where no changes are anticipated for interest rates. This morning several high profile earnings reports as Boeing (BA) weighs on the blue chip Dow while UPS results help and KO posted better results but shares little changed. Treasury yields are little changed to slightly higher, with the 10-year at 5.00% and the 30-year up half a basis point to 5.306%, while the dollar index (DXY) gains 0.27% to 102.23, gold adds $17.00 to $4,055.40, and bitcoin is flattish around $80K. Technology (XLK +0.72%) and Industrials (XLI +0.26%) lead the S&P sectors while Energy (XLE -0.80%), Real Estate (XLRE -0.67%) and Consumer Staples (XLP -0.54%) lag. Oil prices swung as renewed U.S.-Iran diplomacy raised hopes for a Mideast deal, with Trump weighing negotiation against further military action. In tech, META said it increased its largest-ever equity fundraising to $97.5 billion as the social media giant aggressively expands its AI infrastructure; said it was increasing the common stock offering it announced on Monday from $22.5 billion to $25 billion, priced at $625.00 per share. Meta also priced its 250 million depositary shares at $50 per share. Key earnings on deck tonight include Visa (V), Robinhood (HOOD) in financials, and a handful of tech names including STX, TER, NXPI, and FFIV.
